To discover what is dishwasher safe, continue reading below! Here are 5 surprising items that you never knew could be cleaned in the dishwasher!

1. Plastic Toys

If you have a toddler running around your home, then you know just how easy it is for their plastic toys to become dirty. Any plastic toys that your child owns, are able to be cleaned inside your dishwasher. This could be legos, bath toys, and other plastic toys.

Just be sure to keep them on the top rack and avoid placing toys in the dishwasher if they have glued-on parts or batteries.

2. Baseball Caps

Tired of looking at the sweat-stained baseball cap? It’s time to get it cleaned by using your dishwasher! Before placing it inside, pre-treat the stains using a laundry detergent.

Then, place the baseball cap inside the dishwasher on the top rack. Remove all other items from the dishwasher so you can wash the cap alone. Secure it to the pegs on the top rack and run a cycle as you normally would excluding the drying cycle.

3. Potatoes

When making homemade mashed potatoes or any other recipe that calls for a large number of potatoes, washing each one individually can become overwhelming. To avoid this tedious process, consider washing the potatoes in the dishwasher instead.

Place the potatoes on the top rack and use the rinse cycle only. No detergent is needed! When it’s complete, you’ll have a bundle of clean potatoes with minimal effort!

4. Sponges

Sponges can get dirty fast. When you feel inclined to toss one out, save money instead by cleaning it in your dishwasher. Add the sponge to your normal dishwasher cycle and let it run its course.

When cleaning your sponges, it’s a good idea to use the heated drying cycle. This is the best way to ensure all germs and bacteria are killed.

5. Refrigerator Shelves

If your refrigerator shelves didn’t get a bit messy from time to time, you wouldn’t be considered normal. After doing a good clean out of your fridge, take the shelves out and simply place them inside your dishwasher.

It makes washing them much easier than getting down on your hands and knees trying to reach the corners.
